Fifi Box and the Network 7 Sunrise team really put Wyche on the map when the town was shortlisted as the Best town you never heard of . Wyche expat Tessa Allan had seen the promo and had a lightbulb moment when she knew exactly the town that should be in the competition. Her entry saw Fifi present the weather from Wycheproof to a national television audience and around 200 townsfolk who rose before dawn to be part of the show.

On Sunday 16 January 2011 the Corrapjurup Creek to the south of Wycheproof ran and broke its banks threatening to flood the south-western areas of the town. An evacuation warning was issued to Wycheproof residents. Residents pitched in with earthmoving equipment to reinforce a levy and sandbags to successfully stop flood water inundating homes. The long wished for Wycheproof Lake to the south of the railway station and sale yards appeared providing lakeside views to many homes especially in Camp Street.

Event of the Year for 2009 in Wycheproof and Buloke Shire, the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour had something for everyone; from cup champion Subzero, to great food at the lunch on Mt Wycheproof, to hobby horse races for the children, and a formal gala welcome and fashion parade in the evening. The Melbourne Cup thoroughly toured the town and met residents from the youngest to the oldest.
